I had an elective due to health problems. I was scared but the section itself went really well. No issues and had a safe delivery. Was dreading the recovery but again that wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The first couple of days are the worst, just the pain and discomfort but after those days it does get easier. I don't think there'd a right or wrong way to prepare yourself for one as each person is different. Having a good support network helps massively as well with recovery. End of the day it's your choice but I don't regret having an elective section
I had a planned c section, then naturally went into labour 3 days prior, all was going well until baby started struggling so ended with an emergency section. Recovery has been pretty easy, the process of the section was so quick and simple, you’re in theatre for less than an hour and I experienced the most amazing care at the hospital following the operation. I’m week 5 now and felt more or less completely back to myself, albeit it abit tender by week 2. I’ve managed to breastfeed since day 1 and the section didn’t impact my milk production at all fortunately. If you have any questions, no matter how silly feel free to message me! I couldn’t recommend a section more, and I’ll 100% be having a planned section for baby number 2! X
Had an emergency c section and went so smoothly, recovery was also not too bad. I would opt for a second elective section if I were to do it again even though I am suitable for a VBAC.
I can understand as you can feel you are not in control on your own delivery. You will know what is the best for you and your baby. But you have the choice to be awake during it (and see it or you can ask to hide it) or you can have a general anaesthesia. It is up to you and still your decision. All the mum I know who got a C-section, all went well. The recovery can be just a bit longer for some people. Maybe if you writing down your fear regarding the C-section and discuss with your midwife can help.
I didn’t have an elective section it was an emergency section but I must admit it went pretty well considering. I was in theatre all of 30 mins, they explained everything they were going to do beforehand and then everything they were doing whilst they were doing it. Everyone was so lovely. Once out of theatre I was in hospital for 24 hours and discharged. Recovery isn’t too bad, I’m 2 weeks 2 days pp now and getting back to myself. If I were to get pregnant again, I would go for an elective section x
If you have a low-risk pregnancy, you might consider having a home birth. I’m not sure what led to the use of forceps in your second delivery, but generally, if all goes well during a home birth, you’ll be able to avoid unnecessary interventions. I had my first baby at home; she was quite big, and I’m petite, yet I didn’t experience any tearing. Of course, everyone is different, and every birth is unique, but my home birth midwife mentioned that women tend to have fewer complications with a physiological birth. Home birth is very safe—they wouldn’t support it if it weren’t. My husband had some doubts, but once the midwives explained what they would do in every possible scenario, he felt reassured. Also, if you’re registered for a home birth but change your mind, you can always go to the hospital. However, you don’t have the option to switch from hospital to home once labor has begun.
I actually opted for an elective csection as I have major birth anxiety and I prefer then planned and controlled aspect of it. The choice is always yours. Maybe make a pro and contra list for both and see how you feel down the line.
I don't know how it's going to go yet as I'm still 26 weeks pregnant but I had a third degree tear with my first and I've been advised to have an elective C-section this time and I am going to go ahead and have one. I am worried about the recovery with a toddler to look after and the fact it is major surgery but my last birth was a very traumatic experience and I had a long and difficult recovery despite it being vaginal anyway. I was also lucky that I didn't have any complications from my tear last time and I'm worried that if I tear again I won't be so lucky. I was upset when it was first suggested to me because the info given to me after my first birth was different to what I am being told now and I had prepared myself to give birth vaginally only to be told that I was being advised against this. But after having some time to process and talking through with family I know it's the best decision for me personally. Of course this may not be the case for you and a different decision may be best for you
Continued: I believe the risk of tearing again is very low but the risks if you had the same tear or worse can be long term and significant as I'm sure was explained to you. Ultimately it is your decision, they just have to inform you of the risks and your options.
There is nothing to be fearful of. Opting for one for my first was perfect. You rock up at hospital at your set time, and are handed a baby shortly after. 40 minutes in theatre and it was painless. I was up walking in 24 hours, paracetamol is all you need. The only stitches I got were the ones I knew about in advance, and my bladder and vagina are still perfect 👍 would recommend them to everyone
I’ve had 2 emergency csections, this time I’ve opted for another one best thing I’ve had I found natural labour so traumatic. She gave me the option for natural this time and I jumped at a csection! 1st csection always feels more painful because you don’t know what to expect but in comparison to labour for me personally I’d choose ceserian 100x over🤣
I went into pre term labour at 25 weeks. At first they thought I would have my baby naturally but the umbilical cord fell in my cervix so that they planned a c section for the same day. I was absolutely petrified and I was shaking since they told me until they put me in the theatre. It was nothing as scary as I imagined it would be. It was only a traumatic experience as my baby was taken away from me and put in an incubator. If it wasn’t for that it was rather a pleasant experience for me, really quick procedure and quick recovery xx
I had an emergency c section but it was over before I knew it, staff were amazing, after care was fab, healing and recovery was a lot better than I imagined. If I have another baby I think I’d actually book a caesarean
I was so nervous before baby 1s section… best decision of my life. So happy I advocated for myself, zero trauma, zero damage, no issues for either of us and easy recovery. I’m having my second baby next month electively too. Happy to answer any questions xx
