What do I do? Breastfeeding question.

7 month old has been refusing the breast a lot lately. Showing every sign of weaning (according to google, don’t @ me) will have it like 45sec-1min and then push away. we do mix >1 oz in his purée meals (3 meals a day) so he gets that. Otherwise it is just less than 1 min during the day & maybe twice a night 5-10ish min. There’s no way he is getting 6-8oz per feed and 5-6 feedings per day. (Again, google. Don’t @ me) I’m really worried about him. Doctor said “keep trying, it’s not normal for them to wean at this age” but it’s been going on for weeks lately. Ik they are more efficient but it just doesn’t feel right to me. He still struggles to take a bottle too. 1-2 oz if we’re lucky. And that’s him drinking like a toddler (small sips, takes a break, back to it, etc) he’s not getting 6-8oz a bottle. We have tried every trick in the book, even straw & sippy cups & he just won’t budge. I’m tired of hearing “he’ll eat if he’s hungry enough” well he acts hungry and doesn’t eat. Diaper output is good and normal. No signs of dehydration. Only fussy when getting hungry. I’m at a loss here. Idk what to do.

Have you asked the doctor about the amount of solids you’re feeding? We were told when doing purées to start feeding 3 times a day closer to 10 or 11 months. I’m no professional but I’d say he’s just filling up on solids opposed to milk

@Tessa yes we were told to start once a day then his next appointment we were told 3x was good. they also asked on the phone & when I said 3x they said ok & voiced no concern about it

My 7 month old has recently gotten really fussy when breastfeeding and cries when my letdown doesn’t happen fast enough (usually like 1-2 min). I’ve recently started giving her more bottles with a fast flow nipple and she’s been loving those. She literally chugs it. Might be worth trying! We use the Lansinoh bottles with the L nipple for 6+ month olds

@Jordan I second this. My 7 month old was exclusively breastfed and absolutely refused to take a bottle. Recently he’s had the same issue with waiting for the letdown and so I’ve started introducing bottles for bedtime feedings and it’s worked wonders for him! We use the nanobebe bottles. 😊

From what I was told by our son’s pediatrician is that you should always offer milk before solids, because under 12 months breastmilk is still their main source of nutrients and should be their primary source of nutrients. If you don’t offer the milk before offering solids the baby will fill up on the solids and their little tummy won’t have enough room for their milk. It’s recommended to wait about an hour after nursing to offer solids. And You should never replace milk with solids before 12 months or they will start to prefer the solids and refuse the milk and won’t be receiving the proper nutrient’s their little bodies need. I highly recommend getting a second opinion. We do two meals a day and a snack or two throughout the day and that works well for my son. All babies are different but most babies aren’t ready to transition to 3 meals a day until 8-10 months old. 🫶

Not all breastfed babies will take 6-8 oz in one sitting! Purées 3x a day for a 7 month old is a lot 7 month olds are starting to get distracted easily now. Can you try nursing him in a quiet room? My daughter would only nurse to sleep. What about a dream feed? You mentioned he’s peeing and pooping so he must be getting what he needs with the couple min nursing sessions

We were advised between 7-9 months move to 3x solids a day, breakfast, lunch & dinner. So odd how the recommendations vary 🤔
