Yes and yes. Both hurt for the first couple weeks. Both are great options. Breastfeeding is the better choice, or a combo of both. For the first few days up to a week, you’ll have sore, cracked, sometimes bloody nipples. Completely normal while your body is getting used to it

Breastfeeding hurts at first but once that’s over, it’s amazing! I love breastfeeding my son!

Breastfeeding creates a feedback loop between you and baby which ensures your little one is always getting the most needed nutrients and antibodies at any given time, which doesn’t happen with exclusive pumping to the same extent.

Breastfeeding never hurt me at the beginning or now, pumping constantly made my nipples sore (was doing it for 9 weeks) I would definitely say BF is the better option.

Both only hurt if something is wrong. With breastfeeding if it hurts that could be due to something like a bad latch or baby having a tongue tie. With pumping if it hurts it’s usually due to the wrong flange size. If everything is good and as it should be neither should hurt! If you are having pain there is so much support out there to help resolve the issue so you can breastfeed successfully and pain free. In terms of which is best, both have pros and cons, it’s totally down to personal preference. You could try both and see which you get on with best?

It didn't hurt me at all, and I've never had problems or sore nipples.

Hurt me at the beginning to breastfeed. Nipple cream helped. Tried pumping more effort than it's worth imo. On my 5th consecutive year (3 kids)

Nursing with your boobs 100%. Pumping is the most exhausting option out of nursing pumping and formula. You're doing 3x the work Nursing shouldn't hurt if the latch is good. As they get each tooth they will need to adjust the latch. A lactation consultant can be well worth it to help you help baby get a deep latch and check for obstacles like tongue tie. I went dairy free for 8 months as well and really enjoyed that time! He outgrew the dairy allergy at 9 months old and it was not identified until he was 1 month

Neither of them should hurt, if they do, seek help, usually the latch is not correct (or flange size on a pump). If it was meant to be painful, it wouldn't be nature's go to way to feed our children
