First time mum ! Is baby getting enough?

First time mum here, just started on our breast feeding journey after a c section, I couldn't get any colostrum before birth. Now baby is feeding , I've had help from a midwife about the latch as my nipples are sore and bruised but I'm wondering how I know if he's eaten enough? He always seems to want more and always suckling his hands which makes me think maybe it's not enough. Waiting on milk supply still. Day 4 of baby breast feeding. Any hints and tips greatly appreciated đź‘Ź I just want to keep trying !

Congratulations!! This is super normal. With breastfeeding they are constantly eating, basically. Their tummies are so, so tiny. Sounds like you're doing a great job! As long as baby is having plenty of wet and dirty nappies then they're getting plenty.

Hi ! Baby is always keeping sucking or sucking something, it’s normal it’s calming him and reassuring him. He sooths himself already and that’s great !! If he hadn’t had enough, he would just cry ! And do not worry, the 1st month, you will go through a lot of cluster feeds : the stomach of your baby is growing fast and he will cluster feeds to make your supply bigger. So sometimes you will have the feeling that you haven’t enough, but no worries : it is normal and takes 1 day for your supply to readjust to your baby need Big luck for your breastfeeding journey !! I swear to you, beginning is hard, hurts a lot, but after it is sooooo easy !!! Just pop the boob, nothing else to take when you go out it’s soooo easy!! Lanolin cream saved me at the beginning + pumping when I couldn’t bear the pain anymore

So long as baby is having plenty of heavy wet nappies, baby is getting enough. First few days/weeks they'll even poop every nappy too.

Baby feeding all the time is exactly what he needs. And it's exactly what your body needs to get your supply going too! ! You'll know he's getting enough from diaper output. Babies before they are introduced complimentary solids along with continuing breast milk.... Are Lilo, liquid in liquid out. A breastfed baby will also poo, but don't expect it to always have the same pattern.

A newborn should have at least as many wet diapers as they are days old, up to five days old. For example, on day one, they should have at least one wet diaper, and on day two, they should have at least two wet diapers. After day five, they should have at least six wet diapers per day
