I read somewhere that a breastfed baby only ever needs 90ml per feed as your milk changes to meet their needs x
That’s amazing! @Georgie is correct that there is a limit on the amount of milk, but it’s not 90ml, that’s only 3 Oz, a general rule of thumb for babies that only eat breastmilk is 1-1.5 oz per hour. So if baby is feeding every 2-3 hours a bottle should contain between 2-4.5 oz. A breastfed baby should never need more than 5 oz per feeding no matter the age. Unlike formula, breastmilk changes in calorie content as baby grows to give them what they need. Often times if a breastfed baby is over fed via bottle it stretches their tummies and this can cause them to be unsettled and can be confused for still being hungry.
@Emma thank you this is very helpful!!
Have you heard of pacefeeding? X
@Emma I just checked my source and it was on a TikTok of a qualified lactation specialist who said 90ml is all they will ever need per feed as it’s unlikely they will ever get more than that if they were breastfeeding directly. I think based on 3 hourly feeds but personally I’d offer more if they drank it🤷🏼♀️ my 3mo won’t take a bottle so I have no idea how much she gets x
@Georgie I understand that maybe their guidance but the math of a gap of three hours is 4/4.5 Oz, for what your breast makes. Which is why the 5Oz guidance exist. My little girl is seven months and it’s only ever had 4 ounces with the correct pace feeding technique. I do have research that I’m happy to share, that’s not to say that some babies may only take a 3 ounce feed whereas, some babies will take the 5 ounce feed but I was just sharing that 5 ounce is the maximum amount of breastmilk needed. X
@Emma oh I don’t disagree with you, I personally have no idea just sharing what I saw x
For 3 weeks yes girl !!! That’s amazing I gave my baby formula I pumped also your milk will grow as your baby grows
