How do you guys release an engorged breast?

I am having so much pain due to engorged breast on my right side. I tried pumping it but it barely pumps out milk, tried with my hands but its taking so much time and its so painful. There is no redness or inflammation for sure.

Try massaging in a warm shower, if that doesn’t work try feeding baby or expressing as soon as possible after. If baby can feed and latch on the other breast you might find if you try to pump from the engorged breast at the same time it’ll flow easier.

See if baby will feed on that side.. alternatively cold compress and then massage towards your underarm.. I was told this when i had mastitis and found it works soo much better than hot compress and massage to the nipple.. go bra free if possible or at least no underwire.. oh and also, cabbage leaves in your bra! I was amazed by how well it works! X

Only thing that worked for me was getting baby to feed on it

I found a warm compress and a massage, then feeding baby on the other breast while pumping the engorged breast helped. It made use of the letdown. I also just massaged and hand expressed in the shower

Exactly as Charni says! COLD compress and lymphatic draining (massage up and towards the armpit) along with ibuprofen to help reduce any inflammation. Sunflower lectin can also be really good. Try not to pump or feed over what you normally would as this can stimulate the breast to keep making more. Just feed/pump as normal. If baby has difficulty latching then try reverse pressure, use your finger tips and press a circle around your nipples for a few seconds which will make a little indent and baby may then latch. Or hand express the let down first, then latch baby. Be careful, as your let down may be really strong and baby not like that! Also, do you feel baby is latching ok on that side? Is it just an over supply in the breast or is the breast potentially not being drained properly?

Sounds random but was recommended to me by the BF specialist I was seeing…..use the end of your electric toothbrush as the vibrations help get the milk moving. It works really well but you do feel a bit stupid 😂
