Birth control

Any breastfeeding Moms on birth control? Has it affected your milk supply?? I’m thinking about starting it again but I’m worried it will 1) affect my supply and 2) make me crazy🤪. Curious if anyone has a good experience to share. Thanks🫶🏼

I’m EBF and got a hormonal IUD at about 8 weeks pp. No issues with supply and no crazier than usual :) I love that I don’t have to think about it and I haven’t really had a period on it which is amazing since I suffered from horrific cramps before. Win win

I’m really enjoying my Errin birth control, it’s estrogen free and has not affected my supply whatsoever or my mood. It’s often referred to as the mini pill. It’s time sensitive though, in so far as you NEED to take it at the same time every day for maximum effectiveness, and you take it everyday. I am wrapping up my 2nd month on it and I have yet to have a cycle, and no, I’m not pregnant 🤣

I pump exclusively since my baby didn’t latch very well due to him being small. I’m on the pill Heather, it didn’t affect my mood but my milk supply a little. I will say I think it had more to do with my laziness. I was blessed with a really good milk supply with minimal effort. I would only pump when my boobs felt full/ when I leaked instead of being consistent. I had a ton of backup supply so I dabbled in that. My supply went down like the first 2 weeks because I wasn’t pumping my much due to not feeling full. Now that I’m on a schedule it’s gone back to normal. So I guess it was my fault because my body probably thought I didn’t need as much anymore. I’ve been on it for almost 3 months now and my cycle is normal and on time but I don’t have any cramps or fatigue anymore.

My OB put me on a pill that was BF friendly and wouldn’t affect supply. Then I was able to switch back to the pill I was on prior to baby once I was done BF/Pumping.

I use the Natural Cycles app. It's non hormonal and I just take my temperature every morning. It tracks ovulation based off of temperature! You can also get ovulation strip tests for extra assurance. I like it because I used to be on the pill and it made me gain a bunch of weight/messed up my hormones entirely. If you want a non-hormonal option, I recommend Natural Cycles!
