@Chloe which silver cups should i get? i hope so !! my boobs are killing 😭
I used the koala ones, put a drop of breastmilk in them and then wear them between feeds. Honestly within a few days they felt so much better! Xx
I echo what the other Chloe says here. Hang in there because it isn't like this constantly. Also might be worth having your midwife check your latch if possible or pop to your local breastfeeding clinic (midwife will have details) to check. Lots of great Doulas online in YouTube who give great advice on your latch. Best of luck and congratulations x
It may be your LO isn't latching right. My boy couldn't do the standard over the side feeding so we tried the rugby hold and how he feeds like a pro and it only hurts when he's only getting the tip of the nipple and not the rest of it. Speak to a midwife too and make sure you've got nipple cream! Also, expressing milk and feeding from a bottle is an option as well. I do a mixture as my supply is crazy good
Nipple balm every day (sometimes a couple times a day) and expressing milk was my life savour to give me a break.
What everyone has said already plus make sure the latch is deep. I had the same issue and came to find out she wasn't latching on properly. You need make sure your LO's mouth is wide open and almost sandwich your boob into their mouth. It's all worth it and it will get better. Nipple cream (after every feed) and silver cups are your best friend xx
My mum said she swore by cabbage leaves, I know that’s a really random one but apparently it was the only thing that was amazing for her in all 3 kids xx
Nipple shields and nipple cream got me through the first week, it does get easier!
The reason it might be hurting for you is because of baby’s latch. The whole areola and nipple needs to be inside baby’s mouth. Try and get your baby to open wide by putting the nipple to baby’s nose before popping it in. After each feed use balm and breast pads. Boots sell both. Be vigilant with it and use the balm generously. Once a day lie down with no top or bra on so your nipples can get some time exposed to air. It’s a lot of pressure on one sensitive part of the body, so it’ll take time for it to get easier, but I promise it will.
thank you everyone! i’ve just started using the breast pump and taken her off my breast for a bit and already feel tons better, when i see my midwife i’ll make sure im doing it properly, they’ve showed me how to get more of my breast in her mouth but its like her mouth is too small to open wide and only the end of my nipple is in there so it kills 😫 hopefully on her visit i’ll see what i can do to make it easier xx
The more the suckle the less the pains
I feel for you. I had so much pain breastfeeding. Don't feel pressured to carry on if it's not working. Put yourself first. This is the advice I would have given myself back then. I had far too many people tell me to keep going and I was miserable. It contributed to PND. Sometimes they never get a good latch. I tried all the positions, nipple shield, nipple cream, everything. It was a massive relief to stop when I did and my mental health improved xxx
the midwife also thinks my daughter has tongue tie so her mouth doesn’t open very wide? it’s already as tiny as it is. would it be easier just to pump breast milk and only feed from the breast when i really need to/
Honestly it’ll get easier! Use silver cups to help heal them in between feeding. They take a week or so to toughen up and the first 10 days or so is definitely the hardest! Xx
