Totally given up🤦‍♀️

Hi all, Baby girl made her arrival on 10th November and I'm starting to feel so lost already on my breastfeeding journey. I breastfed my first for 3 years and she's now 6. I was super excited this time round to do it all over again but it's proving so much more difficult than before and so much more painful. It's not even been that long and I've had clogged duct upon clogged duct in my left breast with constant pain. I did have a fever and pain for 1 day but it went away the next day. It's been constant pain on the left breast whenever baby feeds or even after due to the ducts being clogged. Midwives have already said that baby girl has a tongue tie but has a good suckle and latch but I'm starting to think otherwise as everytime she latches on to the left, it's so painful and I end up in tears. I'm having to combi feed as I can't take the pain... I really don't want to give up but I'm in literal tears all day about it...

Can you pump a little bit on the left and feed on the right? In that way you’ll maintain your supply but give your breast a break? Just a suggestion, stay strong even if it doesn’t work out xx

@Sophie I've tried this and it doesn't relieve any pain. I've tried everything that I tried with my first and nothing works. I do believe as well as baby having a tongue tie, I also have an oversupply because I'll pump for 10 minutes only on each breast and get 5-6oz on each. I never had this with my first. I could only pump 2-3oz

have you tried silver nursing cups? Only thing that helped me literally a lifesaver. It was extremely painful till about 6 weeks then started to get better over time. I think there’s an adjustment period where your nipples have to get used to it.

Push to get the tongue tie cut ASAP. It's the number one cause of painful latch. As well as poor latch. They really should cut it as soon as it's discovered

I agree with Helen! Get tongue tie cut asap. Also try to avoid pumping to much to prevent your oversupply from increasing even further. Ice and ibuprofen will help the clogged ducts/inflammation. Wishing you and baby the best ❤️

@Helen my daughter had the cut and it didn’t help 😩

Don’t beat yourself up about it I know it’s hard but if you have to let it go it’s okay. It was so hard for me to give up with my first but I kept getting clogs and mastitis back to back and it was not fun for me at all I just stopped and formula fed & that’s okay!!!

sunflower lecithin for clogged ducts, and medela nipple shields and silverettes for nipple care and pain- only things that saved me from giving up on breastfeeding. that and 800mg ibuprofen twice a day im not sure how the nipple shields will fair with a tongue tie tho. my son doesn't have a tongue tie, Im 5 weeks pp and barely getting to a point where nursing isnt excruciating and I've finally been able to stop using nipple assistance and aid lol. But i definitely understand. The amount of crying and almost screaming from pain, weeks felt like a year. It was worse with my oldest, I was much younger with less support and less access to education. I was very determined this time. Maybe if you can just pump on the left side only until baby's tongue tie can be resolved. Or use a haakaa? I do recommend checking out Reddit for lots of positive posts and positive reinforcements for pumping/formula feeding too, combo, and supplement feeding. Fed is best Good luck babe, im so sorry, it does get better
