My midwife advised me to take 3-4 syringes she said someone could always pop back and get more if you need. I wouldn’t bring them all as they would then have to throw them away as they would be unfrozen and you couldn’t re freeze x
I had a planned section. I did not take any. The neat way to stimulate your breast and stablish breastfeeding is putting baby on the breast. If you give then thw syringes, that's a lost opportunity to put baby on the breast. I think they are more useful if for whatever reason you can't feed straight away. So if there's any complications, if baby is in NICU ...
I was told you could have 5 syringes worth. It’s just about space in their freezer! I had loads expressed and then my labour was so quick and breastfeeding was successful so I’ve still got it all now! I think it can be good to keep if babies feeding has any road bumps along the way. Also I’ve heard good for if they’re a bit poorly x
I had an emergency section and originally bought in 20 syringes, whilst baby struggled with latching we used this instead of formula until she could latch. We were using 2/3ml per feed and probably used about 15 of them but still established breastfeeding. They’re good to have on hand and not worry that you can’t feed baby if they’re struggling I think!
Plus they’re kept in the freezer so anything you don’t use can come home too.
I took 5ml into the hospital with me but I had a natural birth and was only in for 10 hours. What we were advised for feeding when we got home was 2ml (2 syringes every 2 hours or so/whenever little one woke up to feed) so if you plan on being there a while for recovery I would take maybe a quarter with you in a cool bag with an ice pack. You don't want to ruin the supply you have by taking too many and not using them as it is like gold for a baby with how much nutrients is in 1 syringe so I would take what you feel comfortable with! it's entirely up to you as your little one can feed on the rest when they're home❤️ Good luck with your section! 🙏🏼Xx
