Feeling disheartened

My baby boy is 10.5 months old and still isn’t able to use a four point position for crawling. He can get into this position and is able to pull himself up onto furniture etc. He can also go from lying on his front to a four point position and then to seated but can’t crawl. He is great at commando crawling. We spend sooo much time on the floor & I do all the exercises but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel like a huge failure today and like I could cry 😢

Commando crawling is still crawling! Not all babies will do the typical crawl. You have done nothing wrong love🥰

@Leah I know that realistically but still just feel so bleugh and like a huge failure.

My boy was exactly the same, showed no interest in ‘proper crawling’ and it was commando everywhere. Then one day he just did it. He’s 11.5 months old and probably been proper crawling for a month, but commando crawling since 6 months! He will either get there in his own time, or will figure out walking before hand. It’s honestly nothing to stress or worry about xx

Thank you @Emily. I feel like I’ve been working really hard to help him develop his core strength etc as I’m worried he’s behind. Hopefully he’ll get there soon. Everything you read says between 7-10 months & he is nearly 11 months.

Have you thought about visiting a paediatric cranial osteopath? My little boy commando crawled from 6-9 months and as soon as we visited, he was four point crawling a week after (he had tightness in his hips which was preventing him from crawling)

@Harriet I hadn’t thought of that. We have our health visitor check on Monday so perhaps I’ll see what she says - she may refer to physio?

@Harriet what did the osteopath do exactly?

My LG commando crawled for a long time then the other week she just started crawling, I didn’t think she was going to and she’s just turned 11 months 😊

My friends little one didn’t start crawling until her 1st birthday! They do it when they want to! My little one commando crawled for about 3 months before he finally realised how to crawl properly and he still commando crawls sometimes now 🤣🤣

Your son is doing more than mine, and mine is nearly 1! Boys tend to take longer than girls, and some babies take much longer to be more mobile - but they probably excel in other areas! Also some babies skip crawling and go straight to walking.
