Advice needed please

I gave birth to my second child yesterday and just looking for some advice and support with regards to breastfeeding please! I breastfed my first baby for six months no problem and I am hoping to do the same this time if not longer. This time baby has latched so so well straight away - however, I had a postpartum haemorrhage (lost 1.2l of blood 😖) and so I am currently not running at 100% anyway and baby was born 9lb 4oz and he is very hungry! My colostrum just isn’t filling him up properly at times and there’s been a few feeds during the day where he has been extremely unsettled afterwards. I decided that because of the circumstances that I would supplement using a bit of formula after the breastfeed if he still seemed unsettled, although I know this isn’t recommended until feeding is established. I also just feel like I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself after having a traumatic experience. I am planning on doing this just until my milk comes in and hopefully fills him up a bit more. Has anyone else done this and continued on to have a successful breastfeeding journey? Do you have any advice to help avoid affecting my supply and nipple confusion? Thank you in advance for any help!

I don't have experience but I've read feed baby with a syringe instead of a nipple. Good luck!

We used a shot glass instead of a bottle just to top up when I felt she didn't have enough. (We had a poor latch due to tongue tie)

I had lost a bit more blood than this before and then during delivery. I also had to feed with top ups and this resulted in combi feeding for all of our 6mth breastfeeding journey. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, but if you are wanting to exclusively breastfeed then giving formula top ups will probably mean you're likely to have to continue like that. As for nipple confusion...I had to use nipple shields for a while and wean off using them to get baby used to being without it. It was tough going, but def do-able! Congratulations on your new arrival, well done for all your hard work so far and best of luck going forward mama x

I have done this and we now ebf! Combo-fed for 4-5 weeks ish then slowly reduced the amount of formula by 10-20ml a day until we could ebf :)

I have done this, and I've breastfed my kids for 2 years each currently on my 5th consecutive year b feeding my 3rd child, he had jaundice so I had to give him formula I still top up sometimes when I want to but past 3 days he's been exclusively bf. I just monitor how much formula he has, I give a limited amount and always make sure he bf first.
