Sleep

I know it’s totally normal and I know we should make the most of the snuggles but I’m really struggling with the fact my newborn won’t go down anywhere but on me or my partner! We are on day 16 now and both getting tired. We have to split the night so my partner stays up holding baby whilst I sleep then we swap to get some sleep. I’ve tried putting the Moses basket in the next to me, warming the sheet, using my T-shirt as a bottom sheet so it smells like me, putting him in gradually like bottom first then head, white noise, rock it. I’m just running out of ideas. He goes down for maybe 30 minutes but then he just screams and usually then he’s acting hungry and wants feeding etc so it becomes a tiresome journey to get him back off to sleep only to do it all again when he inevitably wakes! Any advice at all? Or at least does anyone know how long this lasts? My partner goes back to work soon and won’t share the nights then and I can’t live in 0-40 minutes sleep like I did for the first 5-6 days.

Omg I could literally write this myself. The 1st 2 weeks was OK... this week don't even go there. The sofa is my bed and the buggy is Romans... the buggy is the only place apart from me or my partner he will settle!!!!

Have you looked up co sleeping? Just make sure you read about it so its done safely :)

@Kirstie it’s so hard isn’t it! I just don’t even know where to begin in getting him to settle now 🥱 x

@Sara Yes I’ve read into this I’m not keen and my mattress is quite soft x

Try his buggy babe. I mean I had a total of 6 hours sleep last nite. Don't sound like a lot but it about 3/4 hours more then I been getting the last few days. Xx

@Kirstie 6 hours sounds like absolute heaven! I’ve never ever had that much sleep since he arrived. I will try it tonight. Do you use the whole buggy like rock the buggy to settle him then leave him in it? Or do you just find he goes down in the bassinet? X

I just push him up and down the living room in the whole buggy and leave him in it..

@Kirstie thank you I will try this tonight 🤞 x

@Kirstie awww look at him! He’s beautiful congratulations x

Thank u babe... fingers crossed for u x

Our little girl wasn’t settling upstairs at night in next2me, but we started to move her moses basket upstairs at night (as she was fine in this in day) and bought these swaddle wraps off amazon. We do nappy & feed (well feed, nappy, feed unless she has a poo in there already as she poos midway most times lol), wrap her in one of the swaddles and hold her until she gets drowsy then put her in moses basket (with my t shirt down over mattress) - I lay her down gently and keep my hands on her for 15/20 seconds then slowly let go and she’s been sleeping fine ever since😅 only wakes if dirty nappy again or hungry earlier than usual. We also leave phone torch on bedside table & she seems better when this is on than when its pitch black- but maybe thats my mind playing tricks lol. I’m Formula feeding. No idea if that will work for anyone else but has for us so far🤞🏻 x

I feel you both. I am now trying to get mine off of formula and breast feed only, for week 2 I managed to feed and get him to settle for the 2-3 hrs between feeds, now, not for toffee! Sofa sleeping every night as seems to be the only place he will sleep without making noise all night long. Buggy idea looks wonderful

@Jody I’m also trying to get mine one back to breast feed only following a tongue tie. My little one never settled formula or no formula though 😂 Weird how they settle in random places isn’t it? I’d love to be in their head for a day 😂 x

I just find formula really upsets him, seems to cause discomfort, but my breast milk doesn’t seem to be filling him up so sort of feel I have no choice but continue to add formula. I really hate doing it x

@Jody Yes same! I was against introducing formula but he’s lost weight and wasn’t gaining so I had no choice x

Do you put him in a sleeping bag /swaddle bag or anything? My little boy was the same first couple days I brought him home then I put him in a swaddle bag, I transfer him in to his cot and usually have to stroke his face or put my hand on his chest till he falls asleep but he will sleep in his cot in between feeds.
