Help!

Hi :) I am a first time mum due in June. I’ve tried to get my head into understanding feeding. I’ve decided breastfeeding isn’t for me, so was looking at expressing. But I have no clue where to start, what to buy etc. Does anyone have any reading suggestions or what has worked for them/advice. Just so I can try and understand the minefield.

I exclusively pumped from day 3 of birth. I used the hospital pumps while I was there and pumped 3 times a day. When I got home on day 5 I started pumping every 2 hours for 20/30 mins. By the time my baby was 2 months I reduced this to 3/4 hourly for 20 mins. I then introduced combo feeding at 3 months and reduced my pumps to just 3 times daily and then gradually weaned off x

I'm 7 months pp and exclusively pumped since day 3. I suggest a wall pump and a portable pump

Hi I’m 4 months pp with twins and exclusively express, this is what works for me .. Originally I had the mom cozy s12s which done the job but they weren’t fully emptying me out which you need to happen in order to produce more milk. I then decided to invest in a spectra s2 which has significantly increased my supply to the point I’m a day ahead with all bottles. For out and about or when I’m home alone and can’t be attached to my spectra I use the Medela freestyle hands free which lets me get about the house, out and about and deal with the babies while pumping. The only downside to the spectra is you are attached to it. When I’m out I have the girls milk in their bottles with ice packs and a lunch bag and just heat them up when required. The most cost effective way I’ve found is getting a jug of hot water and sticking it in. But if that’s not an option I have the mom cosy bottle warmer which is expensive but it does the trick especially with two hangry babies screaming at me 🤣

If you want baby to have exclusively breast milk then you'll need to be pumping every 2-3 hours even through the night for about 20 to 30 minutes which will mimic baby feeding you can also do whats called power pumping which mimics cluster feeding which will helps with your supply Is there any reason you feel breastfeeding isnt for you? Once of my friends was the same she exclusively pumped for a month then went back to breastfeeding and loved it! Xxx

My pump schedule is 6/9.30/12/3/5/8.15/11. When the girls first came home I also had a middle of the night pump at 2am. I would say in the early days pump as much as you can ideally every 2/3 hours for the first three months to properly establish your supply. My sessions typically last for 30 mins with an extra 10 mins at the end to make sure I’m fully empty. The spectra pumps can empty me in as little as 10 mins but I always go for an extra wee 10 mins to make sure I’m fully out so I then start making more. Also don’t be afraid to put baby on to latch if that’s something that you are open to. When I was transitioning out of the middle of the night feed if one or both babies woke up I would just put them to breast to save me having to leave my bed 🤣 and then would just stick my pumps on after they were finished to empty me. Hope this helps you 💕

I recommend momcozy s12pro breast pumps (get two pumps, one for each breast), if you can afford more, get more as saves on washing; momcozy breast pump wipes for when you’re out and about; Milton bottle cleaner to clean pumps and the bottles. Pump every 3 hours for 30 mins to build supply, even through the night until supply is up then you may want to extend; drink traditional Medicinals organic mothers milk tea 3 times a day to help supply if low; stay hydrated; buy sterifeed baby bottle re-useable container (or similar) to store milk; mini fridge is ideal for bedroom for nights. I personally only wash & sterilise pumps once a day, I use the fridge back but “not recommend” (been fine for me so far); buy a flask to carry boiling water in to heat bottle (milk inside) when out and about - some babies don’t like the milk cold or cold down (my baby)

@Eleanor my husband will be home for a good 8-10 weeks, and he would like to be involved in the feeding. So thought expressing would be best so he can also have the opportunity to do this. Or would both breast and expressing work depending on supply? Like I said new to this and it’s an absolute minefield
