Thanks @Sarah! Yeah the biggest thing from what I’ve gathered is just to wait until breastfeeding is going well. Hopefully it all works out 🤞
I did it for my first son and am planning it for my second!! We waited a bit to introduce a bottle (basically once we felt like he had breastfeeding figured out) and then started introducing bottles. He took them interchangeably 🙂 just keep in mind you might go through a few bottle brands before you baby finds one they like! We had to trial about 3-4 before we found a winner!
Thank you @Jackie! Glad to know it can work well. What was your pumping schedule like?
The hard thing about that is even if you aren’t nursing the baby you will need to pump in the middle of the night to keep up your supply, especially in the beginning
@Rachel I started doing just a pump in the morning after my son ate around 4 weeks I think. After that I kept the morning pump after I fed my son and would pump every 2-2.5 hours at work while I was away. When I was home with him I fed him normal. I did not really pass off night time feedings because I didn’t want the hassle of pumping but I did have my husband start helping with that once our son was mostly sleeping through the night and it wasn’t “normal” to feed him anyway, I’d leave him a backup bottle and tell him it was his turn. 😂 I personally never pumped at night beyond what my son was eating and when he started sleeping longer stretches I just allowed my supply to regulate to that!
That’s my plan as well! In my bfeeding class, it’s been encouraged to exclusively bfeed for the first 4-6wks before introducing a bottle. I’ve had friends & family do both without any issues. My sister suggested a wide neck bottle as that most closely mimics the breast, so we got glass bottles with wide necks.
