How to settle you’re newborn in next to me cot

My newborn will only settle for a short period of time in the cot, he likes to sleep on me and when I put him down he gets rather unsettled and wakes up. Any advice would be great 😊

It might be too big for him still 😔 is he sleeping in a Moses basket currently at night ? X

He sleeps in a Moses basket during the day and seems to settle. So may be that the next to me is too big. Thanks for the advice X

Yeah my daughter is still so small compared to her crib, I think it makes them feel unsafe. So I’m still using the Moses basket at night time too ! X

I put for the first 4 weeks my babies Moses basket in the next to me crib to help make it feel smaller and it helped! X

Yeah think I will use the moses basket tonight and see if it makes a difference X

Do you swaddle him?

My boy was the same. He hated the crib until he was bigger so we used the moses basket until he outgrew it 🙂 hope he's more settled tonight

During the day leave some of your worn clothes/PJs in there so it smells of you. X

@Nilam I got told that it was unsafe to swaddle him by my midwife

@Fran I will definitely try this! X

Whenever I put my little one down, I always rest my hand on her and rub her belly until she falls back to deep sleep x

Make sure he's nice and warm already in a swaddle before bed. Game changer for me was pre warming the bed with a heat pack before transfer 🙌

We have started to put our girls Moses basket into her next to me as it’s still very big for her and we can carry her up in it when she falls asleep down stairs. Xx

My daughter is like this and we find a hot water bottle in her crib for a few mins so it’s not cold sheets for her helps, as does a swaddle and white noise. Cuddling her into a deep sleep for about 20 mins and then putting her down slowly, bum first and head last, is our best chance at her staying asleep in there x x

@Bobbie I'm unsure why the midwife would say that, it is recommended with newborns. You could try swaddle bags if you don't want to swaddle with a blanket.
