Period and drop in milk supply

I’m about 4 and a half months postpartum and just got my first period back which I wasn’t expecting! I always heard if you breastfeed you don’t get your period back and even though I knew it was possible this still just seems so soon! Anyone else? But anyway I seemed to drop my milk supply significantly, I used to pump about 8 oz each time I pumped and now I’m getting MAYBE 2 if I’m lucky. Which is so discouraging. I breastfeed my baby and anytime I have spare time and baby is fed I pump and donate that to hospitals, so now I’m worried I won’t be able to contribute as much. Does anyone know if my period is causing this and will it go back to my supply before, after my period is over?

I got my period about 9 weeks after having my daughter. After that I could only make 3 oz each breast A DAY. That being said I was already a really low supply maker. I barely made enough to feed her at times anyway so we moved to formula anyway. My OB said that it’s because of the drop in estrogen and progesterone during your period that makes it drop so low but is very temporary

Your supply will come back shortly after your period is over. I've seen people recommend a calcium magnesium supplement to avoid the dip.

I got mine back two weeks ago as well. Supply dropped like crazy during it but then came back- it was super stressful but don’t panic, it will come back

I unfortunately got mine back at 5 weeks postpartum and have now had four cycles…. Each time my supply very obviously dipped but has always gone back to normal a day or two after. This last cycle was the first time my little guy seemed bothered/hungry and we talked about adding in a few bottles during my period. Regardless, it has without fail always gone back up!
