What’s your take on white noise?

Me and my partner just had an ‘argument’ about using white noise, for context putting white noise when baby is cranky and when feeding seems to settle her and she seems to calm down with it. My partner is adamant that we should try without, but I have and she won’t feed well as she keeps messing about, whilst with white noise she would feed more and concentrate on feeding. Anyways it frustrates me as it makes me feel guilty that I’m doing something wrong, and also feels like men just doesn’t understand coz they aren’t looking after baby 24/7. He tries to feed her without and she feeds 20ml and stops and when I try with white noise she feeds almost the whole bottle.

I would highly suggest pink noise it's much soothing for babies ears. Mum knows best at the end of the day. Whatever works for you and your baby x

You aren’t doing anything wrong and do not feel guilty. White noise is soothing and sounds similar to when they were in the womb. Even some adults use white noise to calm them. My little girl is 2 and still I place her white noise on when she naps or goes to sleep. It’s totally harmless and something that is comforting. Why cause her unneeded stress when she is already unsettled. You continue doing what you feel is best. Xx

I wonder why he’s against it… is it because baby might become dependent? There doesn’t seem to be a negative to trying it to me!

Me and my husband sometimes use this kind of sleep tracks to fall asleep. This seems to me another instance of an adult trying to force a baby to be an adult rather than letting them be a baby. If it helps her and soothes her and doesn’t harm her then why not use it?!

White noise has had my 4m old sleeping through the night since 2m old. He self settles as soon as he hears it. Go with your gut mumma ❤️

I put lullabies on for my 7 month old, I definitely feel like it makes a difference for them. At the end of the day, they spent 9 months in the safest place they’ll ever feel with constant noise so you can’t blame them for settling more with more noise in the outside 🤷‍♀️x

My baby is 6 months and we have never used white noise. Its been proven to be detrimental to their brain development, so yeah I avoid! I've had 3 kids and never used it, so I'm in agreement with your partner here

We used it when our little one was smaller, I had it on less that 60dB because it’s meant to be safer at that level (we used it as his room is above the kitchen). Recent research has suggested that having it above 90dB can be harmful for brain development, I probably wouldn’t use it again tbh. I also noticed my son was quite noise sensitive and since I stopped using it he’s not as much. You can check the sound level of yours using a sound meter online but I would also say the fussy drinking stage is just that and will pass x
