@Dana only for about 5 minutes after when I was allowed back in the room... the stretches are not pleasant though!
My second had a small tongue tie. His ped cut it with us in the room. He was about 4 days old, and my nipples were so bruised and chewed up, but he was a very efficient eater. After the release, I couldn't believe that his efficiency improved more (almost double). There was marked improvement within 15mins of the release.
We got our sons lip and tongue tie released around 1 week old and he probably improved the same day. it was pretty immediate. No blisters at all anymore
I think this varies wildly. My baby had an anterior tongue tie (as well as lip ties and cheek ties). He could not latch at all before release at 8 days old. It took about a month for him to learn to breastfeed. Another month to build up enough strength to get 3oz in a feed. And even now he’s not gaining enough weight (likely unrelated to the tie) so we are giving more bottles.
@Belle fair point, i just figure if mamy people answer I'll have some sort of average range to monitor for
Totally! I was hopeful my baby would be able to latch right after the procedure but that didn’t work out for us. We just worked really closely with an IBCLC to eventually figure it out.
We got a really late diagnosis so our babe was 4 weeks when she had her tongue and lip tie released. I’d say it took about a week for things to go more smoothly. I’ve got a really low supply so we combo feed with formula, but her latch is great and she’s still breastfeeding wonderfully! Also stick with the exercises, they really help!
@Kate oh yes, def obsessing over the exercises! If that's late then we're arriving when everyone has left the party! dx at 3.5 months!!
@Kelly I say really late because we went to two doctors immediately because I was in so much pain and they both said she didn’t have any ties. You’re grand! You’ll guys will get there! I learned I have a tt and so wish I would have known earlier in life!
Oh, gotcha! It's so frustrating how under diagnosed it is!
How did it go? Was your baby very upset by it?
