To nurse or not to nurse

Definitely a controversial topic and not necessarily 2 under 2 related but I could use the advice! Currently pregnant with my second and my first will be just under 18 months when #2 comes, my pcp wants me to go on a glp1 (like ozempic) for weight loss when I’m done nursing, this leads me to wondering if I should nurse for a year and risk gaining more weight before starting it or go straight from pumped colostrum to formula and start medicating immediately postpartum. For additional context I have a hormonal condition that makes it almost impossible to lose weight and very hard to keep a steady weight, the only times I’ve been able to lose a significant amount of weight is during pregnancy and immediately postpartum. With my first I went from 275 pre pregnancy to 230 postpartum and this time I’m 29 weeks in and already from 265 down to 245. Any advice would be great!

I totally get that. I think it’s really up to you. With my first I couldn’t breastfeed. With my second I combo fed until 7.5 months and then she self weaned so went and just did formula. I think with next baby like to fully breastfeed. I think if you’re wanting to breastfeed and you want to try and having that bonding moment. Not saying you can’t with just formula because I did it’s just different. Did you breastfeed your first? I also have a very very difficult time losing weight and you can message me and maybe we can talk about that too lol but for me I think I’d try to breastfeed for at least 6 ish months maybe a year then try to lose weight. But yeah after my first I lost a ton right after and then after my second I didn’t lose anything. So I wonder if it was a coincidence or if I had to do with breastfeeding

@Gabrielle I ebf my first until her first birthday and only really stopped because I wanted a 6 month break between the 2 breastfeeding journeys

I think you should breastfeed or combo feed tbh, because i think it's better to give your body atleast 1 year to heal postpartum and then start the weight loss journey and breastfeeding actually does help postpartum recovery especially in the initial weeks after birth. Also the added benefits for baby ofcourse

If you've already had success breastfeeding then it might be a good idea to do it until at least starting solids! (Can be as early as 4 months with taste trating solids? I'm not against formula but there are a lot of benefits to breastfeeding when it comes to your own postpartum. Off the top of my head oxytocin helps with postpartum depression, lower cancer risks, burns extra calories, signals your uterus to contract back to size. That being said what my midwives and nurses always told me is that you should bre a stfeed as long as both you and baby feel good. Not just you and baby want to, but both feel good as well (: maybe sounds weird in English but in Swedish that's how they told me. So maybe make a list or think out loud. You can always play it by eat once baby is here. Congrats and strength to you 💕
