Self settling training working?

I see lots of posts on various sites about people training self settling and it working in a couple of days. I can't even do awake but drowsy and we're teething plus end of sleep regression, so do I start now or wait? Has anyone tried it and it not worked? I'm more concerned about naps which are contact at the moment but any stories welcome!! Jx

I put him down and he will scream and scream, he gets himself in such a state he can’t even begin to self-soothe so basically I’d have to let him cry it out and I can’t do that 😩

My baby always had gone to sleep on his own but with teething etc he needs me more so I don't put pressure on him to self soothe. Just listen to your instincts 😊

I think it's a bit misleading this whole self settling thing. Totally normal for babies to still need us to settle. It's punishing at times, believe me I'm in depths of sleep deprivation at the moment, but if does pass. Easy to think that you "should" or "shouldn't" be doing things but every baby and family are different and so what works for one won't work for another. Good luck! Xx

It seems to very so much from baby to baby. I co-slept (following guidelines) until my little girl was about 12 weeks, when she started falling asleep on me at about 9.30, id then transfer her to the next2me. She gradually slept till 3.30, now it's often 6.30 but occasionally 5.30. My latest trial has been trying to get her to sleep without being on me or side feeding, as transitioning her was always a risky procedure! I bought ewan the dream sheep 2 days ago and so far so good! I put her in the cot (in a dark room with ewan on the heartbeat setting) as soon as she stops feeding....seems to help her drift off xx

I asked a HV about this recently, she smiled and said your choice, but it's very early, don't expect it until they are a bit older. So for me I'm not even thinking about it for another few months

Thank you all, I'm not going to stress about it but would love to get nap time contact free!
