Advice

My two year old son will be 3 in January. He was born two weeks earlier in case that matters. Anywho, he sings and repeats things he hears but he doesn’t communicate. Like I’ll ask him things like, “Do you want juice?” And he doesn’t respond. Idk if I’m worrying for nothing. He just doesn’t listen. Any advice???

My son is speech delayed. You could always get an evaluation for peace of mind to see what they think. Have u gotten his hearing tested?

@Theodora Not as of recently. He had his hearing checked when he was in the NICU. But that’s been almost 3 years ago. I’ll have to ask about speech delay. Is your son speaking now? How did you find out he was delayed? Like what did you tell the doc?

@Mikey I'd definitely get his hearing checked! It's usually something speech therapists recommend even before evaluating. My son didn't really talk much at all until recently so I had a suspicion when he was almost 2 that we needed to seek an evaluation. My responses to those questionnaires at the pediatrician also flagged for further testing. Honestly I'd just ask your doctor if you can can a referral for speech therapy.

Get him checked out

My son will be 3 in February and has a speech delay he talks but not in sentences and he still doesn’t communicate with us well (asking for things) but will take our hand and pull us to what he wants. He’s been in speech therapy for 3 months now and she wants him to use a tablet to try and communicate his wants a little better. I feel like everyone I talk to with boys this age are at the same level.

@Shelly That makes me feel better! Just today he said, “I want milk.” So I’m optimistic!!!!! Gosh, I just feel like everyone’s anxiety is up because of all of the autism stuff nowadays!
