Bottle feeding to breastfeeding

I had a rough time with breastfeeding but i really want to try again. I’m pretty embarrassed that I’m not actually, I don’t want to go to family functions and deal with the judgement I get from not breastfeeding. I also would like to just feed my baby directly from the boob and not deal with the bottles, or pumping. My baby is 3 months old. Does anyone have any tips or advice for slowly going from bottle feeding to breastfeeding? Has anyone done this before ?

I haven’t done this personally as I’ve only ever breastfed but I do hear people often recommend just constantly putting baby on boob. Even if it’s just here and there so your baby can re-adjust :) persistence. Also just remember it’s not about anyone else it’s between you and your baby and it’s no one else’s business but I wish you all the best 🫶🏽🤍

Has your baby been getting formula for the past 3 months? Have you been pumping? Did you breastfeed in the beginning? I only ask just to get an idea about what your milk supply was/could be like! Try latching baby to the boob as often as you can, preferably at the start of every feeding or whenever he or she is hungry, to stimulate your breasts and get baby used to the breast again! If you haven't been pumping or breastfeeding for a while, you might need to get your milk supply up. After baby latches, if he or she gets frustrated at the breast, or still seems hungry after trying to breastfeed, or is struggling to latch, you can finish his or her feeding with a bottle (breastmilk or formula, whatever you have) and then pump! This is called triple feeding. I would highly encourage this if baby is still hungry or can't latch. This will bring your supply up, you won't have to do this forever! Just until you have enough milk for baby and he or she is able to get a full feeding from your breast.

If possible I definitely recommend seeing an IBCLC in your area!! A lot of insurances should cover some visits!!

Try hand massaging your boob to stimulate your milk and your let down before latching baby. Sometimes the baby will want to continue bottle feeding because they don't have to suck as hard to get milk our of the bottle as they do with your boob. If you don't already start pace feeding and then you can switch your bottle nipple to a lower number so they have to suck a little harder. The easier it is to get milk from the boob the quicker they will switch over.
