Dummies

LB is 8 weeks and we’ve never given a dummy. He is a cling on and struggles to sleep anywhere but on me. He seems to soothe by nuzzling into my neck, or a gentle suckle on his fist that seems to help him get to sleep. Wondering if we should just persist with what we’re doing and resting my hand by his face for him to soothe himself or try him with a dummy? Will this help him sleep in his next to me? I worry about the long journey with the dummy and taking it off him and him becoming reliant on it 😂 these little people are complex creatures! But my god I love him ❤️

My LG has had one basically from the beginning as she would never fall asleep unless she was on the boob! The dummy is great as it soothes her and does help her get to sleep but I wouldn’t say we rely on it and she never cries for it so it’s working at the minute! She will be 9 weeks on Monday!

Totally up to you and if baby will take one now. My eldest is nearly 2 I never offered a dummy and my youngest is 10.5 weeks and no dummy x

My girl is 8 weeks. She’s had one since about week 2 because she wants to suck her thumb really bad and I’m trying not to let that become a habit (I can take a dummy, but not a thumb). She doesn’t cry for it either. We pretty much only need it for sleeping and sometimes the car seat. Most of the time she falls to sleep without it, but in the middle of the night it works amazingly to get her back to sleep. Especially during that 4am active sleep time.

My first wouldn't take a dummy and personally I preferred that as I didn't have to get up repeatedly in the night to put a dummy back or wean her off. She weaned herself of sucking her thumb and she's 3 now. Tried a dummy with this baby and he doesn't like it either so I'll encourage him to suck his thumb.

I have used the dummy from the beginning and find it a lifesaver but although he will take it and it helps him self sooth. He doesn't always want it and it's fine to use one while they don't have teeth. I would say take advantage of whatever works
