Epidural failure

Has anyone’s epidural stopped working? Mine stopped working when it was time to push and it was extremely painful and traumatic because I was not expecting that at all. It worked great until then. I gradually started to feel more and more pressure as it was nearing time to push then all of a sudden I felt this burning painful sensation and I’m had to start pushing. Felt everything. It was really hard. And felt them stitching me up which was very painful too 🫠

Me too! I felt it going away about an hour or so before having to push. Anesthesiologist had to come in twice to top me off and it wasn’t helping almost at all. They said it was because baby and I were spine to spine so the pain was worse and wore it off quickly. By the time they checked for that, I was already 9.5 so I had to push that way. Tho the doctor told me I shouldn’t feel the stitching and when I said I could feel it, they added numbing cream. Scariest experience of my life!

Yeah same, as I was around 9 cm the contractions still didn’t hurt but I was feeling a looottttt of pressure then it just slowly turned into more pain. I should have seen if there was something they could do but I was just so exhausted and wanting to get it over with. I think the only positive was I could feel when a contraction was coming on and I needed to push. Maybe when they had me move down it slightly moved my catheter or something. Idk but that sucked 😭 I thought it was maybe semi normal then I talked to friends that said they could barely feel a contraction coming to know when to push.

This happened to me too. After I got all stitched up and everything they went to take off the tape and the nurse said that the epidural had fallen out and my back was soaked with the liquid from the medicine going all over my back instead of into my back. I kind of sarcastically was like “yeah no shit I’ve been saying I can feel everything for hours”. I wanted to have an unmedicated birth anyways though and only took the epidural because I labored for 70+ hours and once I passed 50 hours I was so exhausted I just needed to sleep in order to have the energy to push and I was able to get in a 2 hour nap, so I wasn’t super upset about it I was more so frustrated that I had been saying it wasn’t working for hours and they seemed to kind of brush it off like I was just being dramatic and that it could happen to someone else who did really want the epidural while pushing. So sorry you had to experience that too!

I also felt the pain especially the ring of fire during pushing but I thought that was normal even with epidural but maybe mine also wore off or wasn’t enough 🙃

yup, basically how mine went i also pushed for 3 hours
