How can I stop the whining?

Getting ready for a walk is a nightmare, my dog just knows, and he cries the whole time, I try and ignore it and just get us ready as quick as I can but it really over stimulates me and stresses me out to the point where I just want to scream

Maybe practise the routine without actually going out for a walk. Even to the point of opening the front door and then closing it again. It should desensitise your dog when he realises that getting your shoes on and his lead on doesn’t always mean going for a walk. I imagine it could feel worse before it gets better.

If your going in a pram maybe try a baby carrier? In the pram our little girls is a little temperamental while in a carrier she sleeps like a dream! If I know I just want to get the walk done I always go with the carrier and sometimes I take both so if she doesn’t stop crying in the pram I will move her to the carrier!

@Amy I'll give this a go, because he even cries loads when we are getting ready to leave without him, he used to be fine with this and just go to his bed. (I've only recently started taking him out consistently twice a day, my partner used to do the walks)

@Julia my little one is fine in the pram, I used to baby carry him but he's now 13kg and I'm 7 months pregnant so that's no longer doable. Soon I'll have my toddler in the pram, and the newborn in the carrier, so I want to nip this in the bud before it gets worse and REALLY starts to annoy me when having 2 under 2 and a crying dog 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Take him for a walk so he doesn't actually need to go out (whining or not). Then when back inside, wait a bit then act like you're going to take him out again. Once he starts whining immediately say 'no' and stop and go back to the sofa or do something out like you're not going any more. When he calms down reward him say good boy or play with him etc or give a treat. Start the walk routine again and stop and do same thing until he starts to not whine. It might take ages/days or training etc but hopefully he should get better. Can also try putting his lead or whatever he walks in on and off randomly throughout the day to get him used to having it on and not going out, if he whines when he sees it etc.
