Labor panic

Had a membrane sweep done yesterday 11am 38 weeks and two days with induction on the calendar, haven’t stopped having contractions and spotting but Dr says don’t come in until water breaks. I have no idea what should be normal or abnormal at this point I’m just in so much pain and I live an hour from the hospital so we don’t want to accidentally wait too long.

I would make sure everything is packed, loaded and ready to go. I live an hour from the hospital (where I want to give birth) so I stayed with family members for that reason. Since you’re an hour away, I would suggest on for you to go in. I had my second baby 2 weeks ago. I was having contractions in the middle of the night (I woke up around 4am close to 5am). I was 38 weeks + 5 days pregnant. I admitted myself in around 5:30am. I got my cervix checked and I was 5-5.5cm dilated. I gave birth a few hours later. I went from 5-5.5cm dilated to 10cm real quick.

I'm not sure why the doctor would tell you to wait until your water breaks to come in if you live that far away. How frequent are your contractions?

@Brianne they’re not consistent. I had an hour window where they were every 4 minutes but only a few seconds long and other times I’ll have them every 10-15 minutes. But I don’t want to show up and look like an idiot with a scheduled induction in a few days

Your water could literally break at 10cm right when baby is about to come out. Please don’t listen to that advice. I would go when your contractions are long, strong, & maybe 5-6 mins apart since you have an hour long drive

I agree with @Lia. How far dilated were you with your sweep?y water broke at 7ish am with my second I got to the hospital at 8:05ish am and she was born at 8:36am. Things can progress very quickly especially after your waters break. Sometimes they don't. But I wouldn't risk it.

That seems like bad advisement from the doctor- I gave birth last week and went in before my water broke and was already 6cm. I say go to the hospital when your body is telling you to go

@Brianne they didn’t say how far I was but she was very clear that he’s gonna come out by the end of the weekend, and that if he doesn’t do it himself I need to go in on Monday and be seen

@Alison why the scheduled induction?

@Brianne growth restrictions 😩

I stand by if you're going an hour with 4-5 minutes apart and 1 minutes long strong contractions I would go in.

If your contractions are 4-5 mins apart and about 30seconds to 1 mins head that way before they get longer and stronger best of luck to you mama I just gave birth Thursday after being induced Wednesday

Update? I can’t believe he told you to come in only after your water breaks. My water didn’t break till pushing with my first child.

@Amber in fairness it wasn’t my normal doctor since I had called so late in the night. But still contractions are in waves. I’ll have a good 4-6 that are only a few minutes apart, and then a half hour of nothing. I’ve been walking all day but not much change. Mucus plug has gone and now friends are suggesting I just trust my gut😬 if I’m not in by tomorrow they have me scheduled to be seen Monday afternoon… Idk what to do in the meantime but hopefully something happens soon!

Nah if you have contractions go in, I had bad contractions after membrane sweep and went to the hospital and they broke my water
