Breastfeeding Problems

Hi!! I am first time mama. I just gave a birth to a beautiful baby boy!! He is sweetest little thing and best thing happened to me. During my birth, I received a epidural (nurses gave me strong and 2x). I had 48 labor and my baby boy was large, 9 Lb & 15 oz & 13 cm inch head, 22 1/2 length inch. ❤️ I absolutely love my boy. and i wasn’t aware the epidural cause my breast smaller or low supply milk afterwards birth. During my pregnancy, My breast did grow large for producing milk but now it’s nothing come out. i have to feed my baby a formula. i am wondering if there are any way possible to turning thing around on this?? herb tea? massage boob? anything at all. i was long and looking forward to breastfeeding 🤱 my baby boy.

When did you have your baby, it takes time for milk to come in you might still have colostrum.

I’m not sure how old baby is but allowing baby to nurse very often and as long as they want is the best way to have the milk supply. The first few days are colostrum and they don’t need very much. The diaper output is one good indicator they are getting that.

Make sure you are getting enough food and hydration. Research shows that women with 500 calories more than their daily need have a better milk supply (500 is about what you burn making milk anyway). Make sure you eat healthy whole food. Like whole grains, fatty fish, you can make or buy breastfeeding cookies, drink coconut water. Ask the women in your family what's popular for milk supply in your culture, for example south east asia has green papaya soup, north africa has different whole grains soups. Also make sure baby is on your boob often and as long as they want.

@Supranee I didnt got a chance to do it because I fainted after birth and nurse gave him formula when I woke up.

@Melissa 12/17/24. He’s 4 days old now. 💕

@Salma 😃💕 This is helpful!!! I will try do this. thank you. 🙏

Keep putting baby to breast you need the nipple stimulation.

Congratulations!!! I see why they gave him formula but you don’t have to continue with that if you do t want to. You can allow him to nurse and stimulate the production for you. Have you been nursing or pumping since then?

Hi there! I also had a long labor with my boy, big baby, had epidural, and like 3 things shoved up inside me. At end of day had to have a CS and blood transfusion. Have you see lactation consultant?

I love to help you and talk to you about it and help you out exclusive three years with my son I know how incredibly hard it is to keep her supply up and get it going. I’m happy to help you out. I’ve learned a lot.

Was in the same boat, didn’t have anything coming out for the first 2 days, just few drops here and there. Keep pumping every 3 hours and also try power pumping, that really made my boobs engorged and helped increase the supply. Stay hydrated and eat what you like!

I had the epidural as well. My milk supply was quite low too but constantly trying to breastfeed (every 2-3 hours then on demand) helped increase my milk supply. Keep trying, the constant suckling will help the body produce more milk. Heat massages work too!

So my uncle had told me beer helps increase milk supply. (Note: I did NOT drink during breastfeeding. Just a fact he told me) I googled it and it is somewhat true, but it’s not the beer itself, it’s the barley. (Aka Carbs) Eat healthy carbs and fats, that should also help your mil supply!

I've had lots of supply issues. In the beginning I was barely making an ounce every few hours and now my daughter is 8 weeks and i make 4-5 ounces per feed/ pump every 2-3 hours. after you breast feed pump for atleast 15 min each side after even if nothings coming out( it tells your body to make more. But get sized and Make sure your flange size is correct! Also homemade lactation cookies with flaxseed and brewers yeast helped me a lot. I also use the pump princess pills and drink atleast 2-3 body armors or coconut waters a day. Hope this helps 🫶🏼

Munchkin milk makers which are cookie had word for me and just try to pump even tho I know it could be painful sometimes that what had helped me from when my supply went like no existing

Literally everything everyone else said but add on Brewers yeast powder at least once a day and stay hydrated. Beer does work, but it also impacts hydration so I wouldn’t do that so early . I would stick to you eating really fresh vegetables Whole Foods, staying hydrated and adding in munchkins or the boobie bars. Brewers yeast works in 48 hrs .., also Power pump. 20 mins pump 10mon rest 10 min pump 10 min rest 10 min pump

Constant breastfeeding, power pumping, liquid iv + lots of water, fennel herb & fenugreek tea, lactation cookies, I used to drink a smoothie with Greek yogurt and oatmeal in it every morning that increased my milk supply a lot as well

@Sophia do you have the recipe for this smoothie?

I’d blend up a cup and a half of oatmeal by itself first until powdery, then I’d add vanilla honey Greek yogurt, frozen fruit( I did a blend of strawberries, peaches, mangos) and either sparkling water or juice, I’d add some of an ensure if I needed extra calories

The oatmeal is really good for breast milk, when I first had fluctuations in milk supply I’d drink one smoothie in morning and at night then eventually switched to just in the morning
