Water breaking?

How do I know if my water broke or if I’m just leaking amniotic fluid?! Did anyone else’s water break by a slow leak instead of a pop & gush?

If ur just leaking u still need to be checked out!!

@Erika I’m just so confused between discharge & amniotic fluid. I know discharge is typically thicker but it can be thin & watery too which is what I’m having but idkkk what’s normal & what’s not😂

Either way you should be checked out! Technically a slow leak means your water broke.

Put on a pantyliner or pad. If it's wet/ soaked after an hour go in.

I have been checked 3 times now! I thought my water broke and it’s discharge which is so weird! Hopefully today is your day and you get to meet ur sweet babe!

@Erika can I ask like how much you had to believe it might’ve been your water breaking? Also do you live close to the hospital to get checked? I just feel like I’m gonna be discouraged to drive there (45 ish mins) and be sent home if it’s not the real deal but I also want to be safe and make sure ugh

Hahaha girl- my water broke on thanksgiving- you will know- I gushed for 7 hours… total bathroom floor water breaking moment- I soaked through 3 postpartum pads and leggings in 15 mins before leaving the house.a I ended up just taking a beach towel in the car

@Lia it was enough to make me turn my head for sure. My pants were actually wet. I live 25 minutes from the hospital so not horrible but not a fun drive at 10 pm!!

I should have gotten checked probably weeks before. Everything was fine thankfully, but I was wondering the same thing like everyday. My underwear were pretty wet most of the time, but never like soaked. Then when I went to the hospital because of contractions I did have a leak and I was admitted. I told her I thought I may have been for weeks prior and she said I should have came in. So it’s hard to say if the contractions triggered it or if I did have a slow leak. They said I had a lot of fluid in my uterus.

Mine was a slow leak. At first I thought it was really watery discharge but the second time it happened (15 or so mins later) I knew it was something else lol and it kept leaking pretty continuously for hours after

Mine broke in the shower with my first and then his head blocked it so all I heard was the pop and felt it but couldn’t confirm with a consistent leak. I finally went in because I was in so much pain and didn’t even think I was in labor still 😂 they tested and confirmed my water broke and still had to be broken again because he kept blocking it.

i felt mine pop and for some reason thought it was a contraction and 3mins later i had to me and when i got up i started leaking and just thought i peed on myself and the second i took a step it completely gushed out and that’s when i realized it was my water i heard and felt pop

First off, people who say “you’ll know” or “it’ll gush “ is ABSOLUTELY FALSE ! Sometimes you can have a tiny slow leak due to Where your sac has torn, or even the baby might be blocking all the fluid. It’s not always an obvious GUSH like you see in movies. Amniotic fluid won’t have a smell ( most of the time ) sometimes babies pass stool while in the womb so yes, it would cause the fluid to be greenish tint. If you have any doubts , it’s the safest bet to contact your OB and get swabbed. They can tell you if it’s amniotic fluid right away and you really should know for sure! You can try a panty liner. Sit dow and stand up a few times…. See if it gets wet. Or do some squats and check the liner.

@Eleni your right lol what happened to me is false and I’m lying 🙄

@Lauren not sure why you think my post was aimed toward you 🤦🏻‍♀️ my response was to the original post.

@Lauren I don’t think she was directing anything at you & I agree that your experience is YOUR experience, however, it’s important to note that the “gush” won’t happen for everyone & other people can have a slower leak and still have their water broken so it’s really not a “you will for sure know” moment for everyone :)

Yes I know it doesn’t happen to everyone but mine was insane

Yea that happened to me. A slow leak , they confirmed at the hospital with a test . Put a pad , empty your bladder if liquid is still coming out with an empty bladder it’s amniotic fluid

With my first it was high tear and a slow leak. I felt like I was having a light period and kept feeling it trickle so I went in and the swab came back negative. I went home and next day it was a bit more and went in again and it came back positive. It did end up being amniotic fluid but the swab did not detect it the first time. I did need to use a pad because it kept leaking.
