Sudden night wakings

Hi all, Just wondering whether anyone can relate or help! My 5 month old has suddenly over the last 3 nights started waking up at 2:45/3am and will NOT settle for around an hour or 2. We have resulted in feeding her after the first hour of crying and then she’ll slowly settle however before this she stopped having night feeds at around 7 weeks old! I don’t know if it is the regression as I feel we have already gone through that when she was 3.5 months (waking every 30 mins from the second we put her down and would need a dummy and her Rockit on all night) and that seemed to last for weeks and weeks, then she seemed to return to somewhat of a new normal where we had a few sleep throughs, then all of a sudden this has began happening which is completely new. She has also stopped feeding well in the day, only taking around 3/4 oz in every bottle, even if I try and wait longer to build up hunger. I worry I’m doing the wrong thing by giving her a bottle at 3am because it’s like we’re going backwards by reintroducing a night feeds but I don’t know what else to do. I’m just feeling so lost and have no idea what to do or what I’m doing which is making me feel very anxious! She fights sleep so hard, that’s not necessarily new but everything is just a battle now. I know some people will say “it’s perfectly normal for babies this age to still wake” and I do get that entirely, however when it’s a sudden change it’s just so draining and I’m not coping very well! Thanks for any advice!

Yes, waking at night at this age is completely normal. It’s also completely normal for babies to start sleeping through the night, but then to need a night feed again after a period of time. Things are so subject to change at this age, you can’t take anything for granted! Not what you want to hear perhaps but I’m afraid there is no certainty and anything can change just like that. I think they sometimes start waking for a feed again during growth spurts. That’s what I always assumed with my first anyway. It’s really tough, I get that. My little one has gone from waking for first feed around 03:00 to waking every couple hours, and it’s draining me. I just remind myself that everything is a phase and enjoy the good while it lasts but also the bad won’t last forever. Hope things settle for you soon.

We’re going through the same. I also end up feeding. I think they go through a developmental thing around this age so I’m putting it down to that.

Going through something v similar. Every 2hrs sometimes one hour! I'm shattered I hope it's not a long phase

Omg yes I could have written this myself! Stopped night feeds at 10 weeks and then recently she was waking and not going back to sleep for an hour around 2/3am. I did a lot of reading and it can be due to over or under tired ness so we have been focusses on wake windows and getting the right amount of day sleep and she slept from just before 7 to just after 7am with no wakes last night!! I think at this age they find the world so interesting so they do feed less as they get distracted so I'd also focus on trying to get the oz in during the day so they aren't hungry at night. Even if it means feeding more often but less x

@Emma Cunningham this is fab advice, thank you so much! Can I ask what your days look like now? I’ve really tried with wake windows but in all honesty I feel like this has started since I’ve been doing that!😂 I’m a bit lost with it all so any advice would be helpful! X

My lb started sleeping through and not needing night feeds from 10 weeks. Then he started waking in the middle of the night. Tummy rumbling. We had already started giving a couple of spoons of porridge during the day. So now we give a fair amount after bath. Wait 20 mins for it to settle and the bottle and bed. He’s back to sleeping through Obviously Its a recommendation to not start weaning till 6 months. But I thought he was ready and he’s loving the purées now xx
